Marilyn Smith Jay, born September 17, 1930, went to be with her Lord and Savior on February 22, 2020. Mobile Memorial Gardens Funeral Home is honored to be entrusted with the arrangements.
Marilyn was born in Findley, Ohio and lived in several places before finally settling in Mobile, Alabama where she lived for the remainder of her life. She was a dearly loved daughter, wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. A devoted member of Cottage Hill Baptist Church, she served in many areas including Women’s, Children’s, and Marriage & Family Ministries. In addition, she served as Wedding Coordinator for many years. She and her husband Jimmy loved to travel and spent their retirement years traveling extensively both domestically and internationally. One of her greatest joys was serving others by volunteering as a Pink Lady at Providence Hospital. She will be missed by all those who knew and loved her.
Marilyn was preceded in death by James C. Jay, Sr. (Jimmy), her beloved husband of 55 years. Also, by her parents, Reverend Marvin L. and Velma Smith and three sisters, Maxine Pevehouse, Martha Clem, and Melanie Greene.
She is survived by her son, James C. Jay, Jr. (Buddy), daughters, Cathy (Andrew) Hayes and Terri (Walter) McNellage. Six grandchildren, who loved and called her Mimi, Bradley Hayes, Nicholas (Morgan) Hayes, Lauren (Michael) Chao, Jessica Cheramie, Patrick (Esther) McNellage and Jennifer (Casey) Chilson. Seven great-grandchildren Henry, Elliot, Walker, Hayes, Carter, Emma Grace, and Jay.
Funeral services will be held at 2:00 pm on Friday, February 28, 2020, at Mobile Memorial Gardens Funeral Home. Visitation will begin at 12:00 noon until time of service at 2:00 pm. Graveside service immediately following at Mobile Memorial Gardens Cemetery.
