Marjorie "Margie" Elizabeth Sullivan Waldrop
Margie Waldrop, most formerly of Daphne, Alabama died Thursday December, 29th 2016 in Winter Garden, Florida at the age of 75.
Margie was the daughter of the late Harold Wade Sullivan and late Julia Elizabeth Brandon Sullivan. Margie was the only living child that survived for the Sullivan's. In her younger years she lived in Florida, Kentucky and California before settling in Fairhope, Al.
Margie attended Organic High School and was in the 1959 graduating class. Margie was a cheerleader for Organic High School and represented Fairhope Junior Chamber of Commerce in "The Fiesta of Five Flags" contest. During this time, she met the late Rodney D'Olive Waldrop of Daphne, AL and the couple married in 1960.
Rodney's Naval Career took them many places but Charleston, SC was where they would settle and raise their two daughters. A true southern lady Margie's home was always open to family and friends and many events and parties were held there. She was a great hostess and her parties were known for being fun and happy gatherings. Margie was very active in the Naval Wives Club receiving several awards from the Commander of Submarine Squadron Six for her service. She also worked as a teacher's aide, substitute teacher, and Administrative Assistant to the President of a large company.
Margie had a passion for gardening and growing plants. She served as President of the Northwood Estates Garden Club. Her flowers and plants were prize winners for many years at the Coastal Carolina Fair. She also loved antiquing, bowling, fishing and reading. Margie was active with her church where she taught Vacation Bible School for several years.
Upon retirement, Margie and Rodney moved to Daphne, AL. Margie participated with various clubs such as Class of '59 dinner club, craft groups, member of Republican Women's Group, and Daphne Women's Study Club.
Margie is preceded in death by her loving daughter Julia "Julie" Ninette Waldrop Korpanty, son in law Leo James Korpanty, grandson Alexander James Korpanty. Loving daughter Melinda "Darlene" Waldrop Ellman Cotton, son in law Steven Neil Cotton, grandson Drayton Patterson Ellman and grandson Peyton Waldrop Ellman.
Margie was deeply loved by many. Margie will be laid to rest next to her late beloved husband Rodney. A graveside burial service will be held 10 AM Saturday January 7th, 2017 at the old Daphne United Methodist Church and Cemetery in Daphne, Al.
