Martha Evelyn Northcutt Chapman, a former resident of Lillian, Alabama and current resident of Mobile, Alabama, age 96, passed away on Saturday, Nov. 7, 2020 at Springhill Senior Residence in Mobile.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Walter B. And Carrie Belle (Harper) Northcutt , brother Walter B. Northcutt, Jr., and husband of 64 years, James Theodore Chapman.
She is survived by her two children, son James "Ted" Theodore Chapman, Jr. and daughter, Sue Chapman King; one grandson, Jonathan "Jon" leRoy (Leslie) Largue, Jr.; two great grandchildren, Oliver Johnston Largue and Louise Harmon Largue.
Evelyn graduated from Business School in Birmingham, Alabama, later working for several years at Alcoa Steamship Company in downtown Mobile. While working at Alcoa, she met Joyce Lowery King her future husband's niece who introduced the couple and married shortly thereafter. After their marriage, Evelyn devoted the rest of her life being a loving wife and homemaker, mother, grandmother and eventually a great grandmother. She loved her family, going to church and always helping others. Later in life, she loved going on motor home trips, Cajun food and dance, oil painting, cooking and baking with the best banana pudding recipe ever.
Graveside services will be held in Mobile Memorial Gardens Cemetery at 10:00am with Rev. Daniel Randall of Lillian United Methodist Church officiating. Condolences may be offered at www.mobilefuneralservice.com. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the charity of your choice.
