Mary Benefield

Mary Goodman Benefield of Mobile, Alabama went home to be with the Lord Jesus Christ on Tuesday, July 18, 2017. She was born on December 9, 1933 in Birmingham, Alabama. She is preceded in death by her parents Wilmer R. and June Brewer Goodman, brother Tommy Goodman, twin sister June Goodman Sells. Mary is survived by her husband and love of her life of 62 years Willard H. Benefield, daughters Melanie Benefield of Mobile, Alabama, Susan Theobald (John) of Lakeland, Florida, June Lauffenberger (Robert) of Aldie, Virginia, grandchildren Jared Benefield, Jordan Garcia, Benjamin Theobald (Ashley) of Simpsonville, South Carolina, Valerie Theobald, Avalee Theobald, Kaitlyn Lauffenberger, Kyle Lauffenberger, and her brother Michael Goodman (Janie) of Corsicana, Texas. Mary attended Woodlawn High School, Birmingham, Alabama. In her youth, Mary enjoyed time spent as a camp counselor at Camp Winnataska and later as a young mother was a leader for the Girls in Action Group at Austell First Baptsist Church and where she also served in the Women's Mission Union. Mary worked as a bookkeeper for many years and was Chief Accountant for Peachtree Road United Methodist Church in Atlanta, Georgia. She was a longtime member of Christ Fellowship Baptist Church in Mobile, Alabama where she enthusiastically attended every Bible study possible. Mary loved the Lord Jesus Christ, her family, her friends, and her church. She loved deeply with a servant's heart. She was not ashamed of the gospel and shared Christ with everyone she met. Her greatest legacy is her faith and her love for others. Salvation through grace by faith alone. Ephesians 2:8-10
Memorial Service Saturday July 22, 2017 at Christ Fellowship Baptist Church 445 Azalea Road, Mobile, Alabama 36609. Viewing and visitation with the family 11:00 to 1:00pm. Service 1:00pm followed by interment at Mobile Memorial Gardens 6040 Three Notch Rd., Mobile, Alabama 36619. Reception and fellowship at Christ Fellowship.
