Mary Burgess

Mary Rachel Burgess July 25, 1921- August 28, 2016. A native of LaGrange, GA and resident of Mobile, AL died on Sunday, August 28, 2016 at the age of 95. Mrs. Burgess was a member of St. Dominic's Catholic Church. She was also a volunteer with the Little Sisters of the Poor and St. Mary's Home. Mrs. Burgess was a member of numerous Mardi Gras organizations. She was preceded in death by her parents, Emile P. and Mary Louise Brettel, grandson, Michael W. Burgess, Jr., six sisters and two brothers. She is survived by her husband of 70 years, Henry L. "Diddy" Burgess; four children, Donna B. (David) Kowalski, Robert L. (Susan) Burgess, Michael W. (Barbara) Burgess, Sr. and Donald A. (Lorrie) Burgess; sister, Mabel E. Brettel; brother, Thomas T. (Linda) Brettel; seven grandchildren; fourteen great grandchildren. Visitation will be held from Mobile Memorial Gardens Funeral Home on Wednesday, August 31, 2016 from 5-7 PM. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated form St. Dominic Catholic Church on Thursday, September 1, 2016 at 11:00 AM. Interment will be in Magnolia Cemetery. In lieu of flowers the family request that memorials be made to St. Mary's Home, 4350 Moffett Road, Mobile, AL. 36618.
