Mary Lehne Carlson, 82 years of age died Friday, November 26, 2021 at home following complications from cancer. She was born April 2, 1939 in San Angelo, TX and a retired deputy sheriff of Mobile, AL.
She was preceded in death by her first husband, Coy Wayne Hilbert; second husband, John Augustave Carlson; granddaughter, Mysti M. Sheffield; parents, August Preston Prater and Lena V. Stokes Prater; sister, Sally Dawn Baker;
She is survived by her children, Tawnya D. Mathiews, Liana L. Smiedala and Blake D. Hilbert; grandchildren, Hunter M. Mathiews, Rowdy Begeman, Beau Hilbert and Robert Sheffield; great grandchildren, Tessa Nicole Brock, Tara Ryan Sheffield, Gage Breydon Sheffield, Rayne Kahlan Sheffield and Rowdy Daylan Begeman; brother, Preston Prater and sister-in-law Darlene Prater.
Mary opened many doors in Bell County, TX by being the first female police officer. She also made officer of the year in 1976. She moved to Mobile, AL and became a deputy sheriff. Her career as a peace officer lasted over 30 years. She retired in 1999 and went on to work for Madison Armored Car as a driver and ATM technician. She left Madison Armored Car in 2006 due to declining health issues.
Mary was a strong, loving and caring person who instilled the love of Jesus to her children, family and friends. She will be missed by so many.
Services will be held Friday, December 3, 2021 at Mobile Memorial Gardens Funeral Home with public viewing from 11:00am until service time at 12:00pm. Interment will follow in Mobile Memorial Gardens Cemetery.
