Mary Chitty

Mary Waunette Chitty, age 94, died peacefully on August 6, 2018 at Covenant Hospice Center in Mobile. She was a long time resident of Chickasaw, Alabama but moved to DeTonti Square in 2005 to be near her family. As a young woman she trained as a hair dresser and owned the Florida Street Beauty Salon in Mobile until her retirement. In retirement she enjoyed bowling, dominoes, fishing and keeping up with her family members. She especially loved attending the PACE classes at the Moorer YMCA downtown, where she made many new friends. She is survived by her son, William J. Cochran, III (Elizabeth) of Georgetown, Texas; daughter Wanda Cochran (Arthur Madden) of Mobile, four grandchildren, and many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents and her beloved brothers, Rex Smith of Bonifay, Florida; Ray Smith of Panama City Florida and Roy Smith of Pensacola, Florida.

There will be a graveside service at Mobile Memorial Gardens on Wednesday, August 8 at 10 a.m. Family and friends are invited to gather at the Detonti Square house following services from 12- 2 p.m. The family asks that in lieu of flowers, donations be made to the Moorer Branch of the YMCA in Mobile.
