Mary Foxhall Brackin

July 27, 1929 — January 5, 2022

Mary Louise Foxhall Brackin, affectionately known by many as Lou Lou, passed away at the age of 92 on Wednesday, January 5, 2022 at the South Baldwin Medical Center in Foley after a protracted battle with pneumonia. Mrs. Brackin was born on July 27, 1929 in Octagon, Alabama to William Newman Foxhall and Adelle Yates Foxhall.

Mrs. Brackin was preceded in death by her parents (named above) and her husband of 37 years Claude Lee Brackin II, son William D. Brackin, brother Jolly Jeff Foxhall, and sister Betty Jean Tucker. Lou is survived by her children Claude Lee Brackin III, Jeanie Louise Brackin Puckelwartz, James Jeffrey Brackin, six grandchildren, three great grandsons, and two great granddaughters (with another on the way).

Louise Brackin was a beloved caregiver for almost all of her remarkable life, beginning her nursing career at the tender age of 14, and continuing in that profession for over 60 years, positively impacting the quality of life for literally tens of thousands of patients. Lou received numerous accolades and awards over the years, but becoming the first certified, licensed pediatric nurse in the state of Alabama was one she was particularly proud of, as she truly loved taking care of children. Over her illustrious career, she provided quality, loving nursing care at such institutions as Mobile General, Mobile Infirmary, Saad's Heritage Nursing Home, Marengo and Mobile Boards of Health, and Mercy Medical, where she retired with over 20 years of service.

Mrs. Brackin was a kind, caring person who went out of her way to help others and always thought of others before herself, as her family can certainly attest. Lou loved the outdoors-vegetable gardening and canning, fishing, working in the yard, repairing and renovating old furniture like her Daddy before her, and simply exploring life with an ever optimistic and enthusiastic attitude. She was such a positive, fun-loving person to be around, always planning fun excursions, fishing trips, camping outings, and all kinds of special entertainment that her children, nieces and nephews enjoyed immensely.

Louise Brackin loved her family and patients dearly and sacrificed greatly for them. She will be deeply missed. Rest in Heavenly peace, Lou Lou, you most certainly deserve it.
