Mary Givhan

December 28, 1952 — March 13, 2017

Mary Anne Givhan died very peacefully on March 13, 2017 in the Covenant Care Unit of Providence Hospital. A native of New Albany, Indiana, and long-time resident of Mobile, she graduated from the University of South Alabama where she received her BSN and MSN degrees, and a Clinical Practioner designation in neonatology at Children's Hospital in Denver, CO. She is survived by her husband Joseph P. Givhan, Jr., and two daughters; Martha (AJ) Murray, Ft. Collins, CO., and Kathleen (Chase) Sumrall, Mobile, AL, and two grandchildren Sawyer Sumrall, and Andrew Murray. She is also survived by her father, Richard Pennington, Mobile, AL and two sisters; Pam (Phil) Taylor, Coppell, TX, and Shelley(Steve) Baker, Montrose, AL. The family would like to express a special thanks to the doctors and staff of Providence Hospital for their excellent care during her time of health care, also to Joyce Spinks, her special caregiver during the past several years. There will be a private family graveside service at Mobile Memorial Gardens, and a memorial service at St. Paul's Episcopal Church on Monday March 20, 2017 at 11 AM with the family receiving friends at 10 AM prior to the service. The family request memorials in her name be offered to St. Paul's Church, the Diabetes Foundation, or a charity of choice.
