Mary Catherine Herzog (Hummer)

December 19, 1928 - February 13, 2024

Mary Catherine Herzog, age 95 of Fairhope, AL passed away at 1:09 PM on Tuesday, February 13, 2024 at Mobile Infirmary Hospital in Mobile, AL. The family would like to thank the medical staff at Mobile Infirmary, Thomas Hospital and the Colony Rehabilitation at Thomas Hospital for their compassion and excellent care.

Born December 19, 1928 In Henryville, IN, she was the daughter of William Andrew Hummer and Sarah Elise (Montgomery) Hummer. Mary grew up on a farm in Henryville, IN and moved to Mobile, AL after marrying the love of her life, "Jimmy" Herzog. Later after the death of her husband, Mary moved to Fairhope AL to be near her family and friends.

Mary graduated high school in Henryville, IN with high academic marks. Mary was an avid reader and enjoyed new experiences and learning in general. She had a gift, and a heart for caring for others. Later in life after Mary raised her two sons, she entered college to pursue a nursing degree. She received her LPN license in 1968, and grew in her career by continuing her education and receiving her RN license in 1977. During her career, she worked in hospitals, physician offices and for the Mobile County Health Department, but her heart was for the children that she served while working at the Brewer Center, where she retired.

Mary's passion in life was her family. Early in her family life, she and her two boys traveled with her husband when her husband's job took him to different job sites across the country. This traveling with her family created many memories and experiences that she loved to share. She loved sports and especially loved cheering on her sons and grandchildren. Mary especially loved to travel, and enjoyed trips in the US and abroad with her best friend and others.

Her sister, Sue Kostelecky of Slidell, LA., survives Mary. Her children, James Daniel Herzog, Jr. (Sheryl) of Fairhope, AL and Richard Wayne Herzog of Birmingham, AL. Her grandchildren, James Daniel Herzog III (Angela) of Madison, MS and Caleb Langford (Megan) of Edwards, MS. Her great granddaughters Lauren Herzog Wray (Spencer) of Madison, MS, Zoey Langford of Edwards, MS and Riley Collins of Edwards, MS, as well as a number of nieces and nephews.

Mary is preceded in death by her husband James Daniel Herzog, Sr., siblings, Margaret Hummer, Helen Martin, David Hummer and James Woodrow Hummer.

Services will be held From the chapel on Monday, February 19, 2024 at Mobile Memorial Gardens Funeral Home, 6040 Three Notch Road, Mobile, AL 36619. Tel: (251)661-7000.

Visitation is at 11:00AM, and Pastor Taylor Morgan will perform the funeral services at 12:00PM with graveside services following at Mobile Memorial Gardens Cemetery.
