Mary Agnes Johnson McDonaldSeptember 6, 1928 - January 13, 2020A native of Savannah, GA and longtime resident of Mobile, AL, Mary Agnes Johnson McDonald passed away peacefully January 13, 2020. Visitation Services will be at Mobile Memorial Gardens Funeral Home on Saturday, January 18, 2020 at 12:00 noon with funeral services at the chapel of Mobile Memorial Gardens Funeral Home following at 2:00 pm. Interment will be at Mobile Memorial Gardens Cemetery following the funeral services. Reverend Charles Morley will be officiating and Albert Hunter will be the piper. Mary was the daughter of John Archibald Johnson Sr. and Ruth Black Johnson of Savannah GA. Mary was preceded in death by her husband, William R McDonald Sr. of 38 years. She is survived by her children Deborah M. Rowse, William R. McDonald Jr., Pamela M. Kotis, and Cynthia M. Zakrzewski. Mary is also survived by her 8 grandchildren, 5 great grandchildren, and 2 great-great grandchildren as well as many nieces, nephews, and other close family relatives. Mary had many interests - she was a founding member of the Scottish Society of Mobile and a longtime member of the Mobile International Festival. Mary was a member of the Daughters of the American Revolution for over 30 years, holding offices of Chapter Regent and Richards DAR House Museum Board President. She spent many years as a guide for the Richards House and served as guide chairperson and trainer of docents. She also was a member of the knitting ministry group for St Luke's Episcopal Church. She enjoyed stitching, sewing, knitting, gardening, genealogy and family history, and spending time with her family. Mary encouraged everyone that she came in contact with and was known to always have a smile on her face and love in her heart. She always brought out the best in each one of us. Her presence brightened our lives, and she will be greatly missed. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in her honor to the Kate Duncan Smith DAR School, National Parks Conservation Association, the Scottish Society of Mobile William R McDonald Scholarship Fund, or to your favorite charity.
