MATHERS
Sept. 3, 1930 - Mar. 14, 2015
Mary Bedorah Brown Mathers "Bebe", 84, a lifelong resident of Mobile, AL, passed away in a local hospital on Saturday, March 14, 2015. Bebe was preceded in death by her parents, Ernestine Johnston Brown and Henry Douglas Brown; and her sisters, Elizabeth "Betty" Brown Hurm and Ruth Brown Sawyer. She leaves to cherish her memory her daughters, Linda Mathers Cross (Steven), Las Vegas, Nevada, and Diane Mathers Green; a son, William B. "Barry" Mathers, Jr., both of Mobile, AL; granddaughter, April Cross Masson (Peter) and two great-grandchildren, Ewan and Isla, all of Ayre, Scotland; loving niece, Mary Beth Mantiply (Jan Charles Mittemeyer) and dear friend, Joan Oberkirch, both of Daphne, AL; and other nieces, nephews, and relatives. Bebe was a 1947 graduate of Murphy High School and also graduated from Twentieth Century and Huffstetler Business Colleges. She went to work for the City of Mobile as a secretary in various departments, including Electrical, City Hall where she worked for several City Commissioners, at the Mobile Municipal Auditorium as one of the initial staffers, and at the Mobile Police Department where she worked up to the position of secretary for the Assistant Chief of Police until the time of her retirement. We are grateful that Mom/Bebe was blessed with a fairly long retirement before her health got too bad, giving her time to pursue her interests, such as traveling, oftentimes with her sister, Ruth, to see stage shows and concerts; raising and cherishing her precious cats; trying to solve a famous child homicide case through online discussions and blogs; dabbling in political critique from the local to the national level and cheering on her long-loved Alabama Crimson Tide football team - while alternately praising and chastising CNS as frequently as needed, RTR Mom! Visitation was held on Tuesday, March 17, 2015 from 5 to 9 PM at Mobile Memorial Gardens Funeral Home. There will be a Mass of Christian Burial on Wednesday, March 18, 2015 at 11 AM from Corpus Christi Catholic Church, 6300 McKenna Dr., Mobile, AL 36608 followed by interment in Magnolia Cemetery on Virginia St., Mobile, AL. Pallbearers will be Michael J. Fobes, Dennis Fobes, Patrick Fobes, Bradley Wells, Joseph G. Nelson and Jan Charles Mittemeyer. The family asks that those seeking an alternative to flowers offer a charitable donation to Coventry Hospice. Condolences may be offered at www.mobilememorialfunerals.com.
