Mary June Smither, 91, of Wilmer, Alabama, passed away on November 15, 2024.
Mary June was born on June 11, 1933, in Mobile, Alabama, to Henry and Loyis Pierre.
June was always welcoming everyone with a warm smile, whether it was family, friends, or a patron of JC Penney (a job she loved). June loved her children as well as everyone else's. She coached basketball and volleyball, was a Girl Scout Troop Leader, and taught piano. She loved music which led to her passion for dancing. At any family gathering she would make sure there was always time for music and dancing. She loved cooking, crafting, baking, and sewing. Her pecan pie was something the whole family fought over. Christmas was her favorite time of the year, whether she was spoiling all the children or starting traditions with her many crafts like her beautiful sequined stockings to candy cane countdowns to Christmas. Even though she was 91, she was still sharp as a tack. She loved doing crossword puzzles and keeping track of her family's many accomplishments. She loved her family more than anything and was always so very proud of them.
June is preceded in death by her parents, Henry E Pierre and A. Loyis Pierre; husband, Eugene Smither; granddaughter, Daina A Denmark; grandson, Len E Pierce, son-in-law, Gerald Pierce; sister, Audrey L Ballance.
She is survived by her daughters, Marilyn E Pierce and Deborah A Denmark, both of Wilmer; sons, Phillip D Smither of Chickasaw, Kevin G Smither (Disa) of Grand Bay; sister, H. Jean Ryan; 7 grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren, and 3 great-great-grandchildren.
June's family will celebrate her life with a funeral service on Wednesday November 20, 2024, at 2:00 pm at Mobile Memorial Gardens Funeral Home. Her family will receive friends one hour prior. Interment will take place at Mobile Memorial Gardens Cemetery.
Deavin Sayasane, Josh Beverly, Ronny Reeves, Jimbo Robinson, Josh Mayfield, and Brandon Biggs will serve as pallbearers.
