Matt Hayze Perkins
April 11, 1938 - April 10, 2018

Matt Hayze Perkins, known to his family as Mickey, 79, passed away on Tuesday, April 10, 2018 in Mobile, AL, one day before his 80th birthday. Matt was born to A. M. (Polly) and Catherine Rodgers Perkins in Mobile, AL. He was a graduate of Murphy High School in 1956.

As a young man, Matt kept in shape with body building and later became a dedicated runner. His love was the outdoors and wildlife. As a child he had his Red Rider BB gun in the woods living out the dreams from his favorite book, The Call of The Wild. He played basketball and softball well into his 30s and was an avid golfer and fisherman. And he loved to dance and have a good time.

Matt spent 28 years in transportation sales with the GM&O and ICG Railroad in Mobile, AL and then Cleveland and Cincinnati, OH. The salt water in his veins brought him back to Mobile where he managed an intermodal office and later worked for Dixie Drayage until his retirement in 2017. Matt was a true patriot, loved his country and served 9 years in the National Guard before he reluctantly resigned due to family and job requirements.

Matt was preceded in death by his parents and two of his brothers, Aubrey and Jerry. He is survived by his beloved wife of 37 years, Judi Kelly Perkins, one son, Michael Keith (Kathryn/Kittie) Perkins, three step children that he loved like his own: Kelly Ann (Rick) Mather, Jeffrey Thomas (Christina) Osborn and Clint Alan Osborn. He had 11 grandchildren: Delaney and Aaron Perkins; Kacey, Julieann and Scotty Mather; Tommy, Ricky, Kayleigh and Sofia Osborn; Dylan and Brady McGuire; brother Gene (Susan) Perkins, Magnolia Springs, AL; sister Catherine Hunt of Boaz, AL and sister Jan (Bobby) Barton of Panama City, FL. Funeral services are scheduled Saturday, April 14, 2018 at 12:00 Noon from the Chapel of Mobile Memorial Gardens Funeral Home with visitation beginning at 10:00 AM. Interment will be in Mobile Memorial Gardens. Condolences may be made at www.mobilefuneralservice.com.

The family would like to thank all of the extended families, friends, neighbors and others for their outpouring of concern, love, prayers and offers of help during this difficult time. And a special thank you to the staff at Mobile Infirmary for their professional dedication and tender care of Matt.

In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the Salvation Army or any of the agencies supporting our wounded warriors.
