Mavis Monroe, age 92, went home to be with the Lord on December 25, 2021. Mavis made a career in the banking industry in Charleston, South Carolina. She was the first female branch manager in the Charleston area. After retiring she married Bill Monroe from New Jersey and then they moved back here to her hometown of Mobile, Alabama. Mavis never acted or looked her age and when asked about her age she always said you're only as old as you feel which for her was young. She loved the performing arts and was an avid supporter of the Joe Jefferson Players and held season tickets for many years.
Mavis was preceded in death by her first loving husband, Al Guttierrez and their much-loved children, Ricky and Stephen, and her second loving husband, William "Bill" Monroe II, along with her parents, Oscar and Ann Wade, her brother, Herschel Wade and her sister Dottie (R.D.) Ready.
Mavis is survived by her loving brother and sister-in-law, Billy and Kim Oanh Wade, devoted nieces Reesa (Keith) Skipworth, Diane Wade Clausen and Michele Wade Bolton, stepdaughter Laura (Rich) Roy of California, stepson William "Billy" Monroe III of New York, and other loving nieces and nephews Mike (Robin) Wade, Cindy (Barry) Dean, Randy (Andrea) Ready, Tim (Kelly) Ready, Jeff (Angie) Tardie and Ann Vu.
Services will be held Monday, January 3, 2022, at Mobile Memorial Gardens Funeral Home with visitation from 9:00am until the service time at 10:00am. Interment will follow in Mobile Memorial Gardens Cemetery.
