Maxie Earl Hollinghead, 79, of Aquilla, AL, beloved father, passed away peacefully surrounded by those he lived for and loved on April 26, 2016.
Maxie graduated from Millry High School and joined the Army National Guard upon graduation. At the age of 18 he joined the United States Army where he proudly served in a special forces unit in the Korean War. After the war he returned to the National Guard until 1961. He retired from International Paper Company's Mobile Mill.
He is survived by his son Tom E. Hollinghead of Saraland, AL, daughter Penny H. Taylor-Balme and her husband Kennard P. Balme of Daphne, AL, grandsons David M. Farmani, II and Zachary B. Taylor both of Daphne, AL, step-son Walter R. Primm, Jr. of Grand Bay, AL, brother Joel C. Hollinghead of Dayton, TX, sister Undine Johnson of Big Point, MS, as well as his many loving sister-in-laws, nieces, nephews and other friends.
He is predeceased by his wife Mildred Jeanette Primm Hollinghead, his parents David and Mattie Lula Hollinghead, brothers Clearence E. Hollinghead, Henry L. Hollinghead, and Arnold D. Hollinghead.
The family would like to express their gratitude to the members of Fairhope Health and Rehab in Fairhope, AL. Their dedication and efforts to provide quality care over the last year has been heartwarming. We thank God for the gift of his life and the blessing of our time with him.
Services will be at Mobile Memorial Gardens Funeral Home, 6040 Three Notch Road, Mobile, AL on April 30, 2016. Visitation from 11:00 to 12:00. Grave side service at noon.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations my be made in Maxie's name to USA Children's and Women's Hospital, Hollis J. Wiseman Neonatal Intensive Care Unit.
