COURSEY, Sr.
Melvin Benny Coursey SR, 84, passed away peacefully at home surrounded by his family. He went to be with the Lord on Aug 25, 2019. He was a member of Wilmer Baptist Church. He was born Nov 9th, 1934 in Wilmer Alabama. He married the love of his life Feb 2nd, 1953. They were high school sweethearts. He enlisted in the U.S. Army May 16,1957 to May 15, 1959. There he served as a member of the 101st Airborne. He moved his family to Lawton, Oklahoma in 1964. He worked for the civil service for 22 years at Fort Sill Army Base. He retired April 1988. He is survived by his lovely wife Margaret (Ward) Coursey of 66 years. His children Cheryl Herrington, Rickey Coursey, Barbara Mounts, Melvin Coursey Jr, Mitchell Coursey, 4 grandchildren and 8 great-grandchildren, his brother Virgil Coursey and sisters Eulice Driskell and Lillian Estis and numerous nieces, nephews and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents Paul and Ada Coursey, his son Demetri (Dee) Corusey, his brothers Carliss and Lionel, his sisters Inez, Gladys and his granddaughter Angela Evans.
The family extends special thanks to the staff of Springhill Hospice and family and friends for all of your prayers and kindness.
Dad we love you and will miss you dearly. Funeral services will be held from Mobile Memorial Gardens Funeral Home on Thursday, August 29, 2019 at 12 noon. Visitation will start at 11 am. Burial will be in Mobile Memorial Gardens.
