THE AMAZING LIFE OF MICKEY SHEFFIELD
Our beloved Mickey Sheffield passed away October 27, 2024. He was 91. Mickey was preceded in death by his parents Ralph Anderson Sheffield and Claudia Draughon Sheffield, two sisters Bessie Danley and Dorothy Patterson, grandson Sgt. Brock Rollins and close friends Charlie Elliott and Warren Smith.
Mickey is survived by his wife of 43 years, Luci Sheffield and his children Ralph Sheffield, Michael (Donna) Sheffield, Delphine Sheffield all of Mobile, Katherine McClure of Spanish Fort, Jan (Eugene) Bowman of Hurley, MS; children by marriage Lawanna (Johnny) Sharpless of Orange Beach, Jacquelyn (John) Dykes of Morgan City, LA, Melanie Manderson of Mobile, 14 grandchildren, 22 great grandchildren, many nieces, nephews, cousins and close friend Jimmy Holloway.
Mickey was a lifelong resident of the Seven Hills community of Mobile. He attended Baker School where his children, grandchildren and great grandchildren attended. Mickey's father served in World War I, Rainbow Division and died when Mickey was 8 years old. A true pioneer, his mother raised Mickey and his two sisters on the plot where Mickey and Luci have resided. Mickey worked with the Aluminum Company of America (ALCOA) for 32 years. Following retirement, he became a small construction business owner. Mickey enjoyed fishing, hunting, gardening and serving at his church. He traveled worldwide with Luci and especially took joy in going on mission trips to Brazil. He also enjoyed participating in Republican campaigns and fundraisers. Mickey was jovial, benevolent and a hard worker. He loved the Lord with all his heart and was very passionate about his family and friends.
Mickey was a member of Union Baptist Church in Grand Bay, the ALCOA 25-Year Club, Landowners' Association and the Mobile County Republican Executive Club.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to a memorial fund set aside to build a new church in Brazil in memory of Mickey Sheffield. Donations can be sent to IMHope Ministries, POB 851285, Mobile, AL 36685.
Visitation will be 9:30-11:00 AM and funeral services will be 11:00 AM October 30 at Mobile Memorial Gardens. Burial will follow at Union Baptist Church Cemetery.
