Mai Xuan Nhieu passed away at Providence Hospital in Mobile, Alabama on May 7, 2016 due to complications from open heart surgery.
Mr. Mai was born on October 15, 1942 in Phan Thiet, Vietnam. He proudly served in the South Vietnam Navy prior to immigrating with his family to Knoxville, Tennessee in 1979. Mr. Mai and his family eventually settled in Bayou La Batre, Alabama where he worked in the seafood industry. Mr. Mai and his wife have been long time residents of their beloved adopted hometown of Bayou La Batre since 1984.
Mr. Mai is survived by his wife of 55 years, Nguyen Thi Kinh and eight children: Mai Xuan Son (Nguyen Thi Nam) of Lafayette, Louisiana, Mai Thi Hai (Nguyen Thanh Liem) of Bloomington, Indiana, Mai Thi Ha of Lafayette, Louisiana, Mai Thi Nga (AE Detamphayvanh) of Bloomington, Indiana, Mai Thi Hoa (Susan Su) of Bloomington, Indiana, Mai Xuan Luc of Orlando, Florida, Mai Thi Hien (Mai Tuan Minh) of Willis, Texas, and Mai Xuan Quyen of Bloomington, Indiana. Mr. Mai is also survived by his ten grandchildren: Ba, Thien Y, Christopher, Ryan, Justin, Joanne, James, Khathy, Nelson, and Bryton, and two great grandchildren.
Visitation services are scheduled for Tuesday, May 10th at 3:00 pm through 5:00 pm and on Wednesday, May 11th at 10:00 am through 1:00 pm at Mobile Memorial Gardens Funeral Home on 6040 Three Notch-Kroner Road, Mobile, Alabama 36619. Burial service will immediately follow at Odd Fellows Cemetery at 12450 Bayou La Batre-Irvington Highway, Bayou La Batre, Alabama.
