Patricia H. Dorsett was born on June 9, 1930, in Sulligent, Alabama. She grew up in Tennessee where her father was employed with the TVA. Pat met George W. Dorsett in Birmingham where they were married on March 18, 1950. She graduated from University Hospital School of Nursing in 1957. After their family settled in Mobile in 1960, she was employed at Doctors Hospital as a nursing supervisor until taking a position as a nursing instructor at Southwest State Technical College until retiring in 1992. During this time, she earned a Baccalaureate degree in Nursing from Mobile College and a Master’s Degree in Nursing from the University of Alabama in Birmingham. Pat was a devoted follower of Christ and was a member of Luke 4:18 Fellowship. She and George were also longtime members of Cottage Hill Baptist Church. She died peacefully on October 18, 2019, at the age of 89, surrounded by her family.
She was preceded in death by her husband, George; her parents, Rollie C. and Lois Beebee Holliday; and one sister, Lorese (Peggy) Omanoff. Her survivors include four children: Patricia Davis of Birmingham; Dr. George Wayne Dorsett, Jr. (Joy) of Valdosta, Georgia; Martin E. Dorsett (Robin), and Brian R. Dorsett (Vickie), both of Mobile; twelve grandchildren: Michael Davis, Laura Davis Beatty (Curt), Erin Vaughn, Daniel Dorsett, Brittany Starr (Matt), Christopher Dorsett (Roz), Bradley Dorsett (Amber), Jordan Dorsett (Lauren), Ross Dorsett, Matthew Dorsett (Morgan), Reed Dorsett, and Lindsay Dorsett; twelve great-grandchildren; Anna Grace Beatty, Drew Beatty, Jenna Vaughn, Harper Vaughn, Eli Vaughn, Ruth Dorsett, Sam Dorsett, Bennett Dorsett, Henry Dorsett, William Dorsett, Jane Dorsett, and John Martin Dorsett. She is also survived by two sisters: Carolyn Tillery of Knoxville, Tennessee and Sara Hair of Sugarland, Texas, and several nieces, nephews and other relatives. The family will receive friends on Monday, October 21, 2019 from 10:00 AM till 12:00 PM at Luke 4:18 Fellowship located at 2664 Sollie Road, Mobile. A celebration service will immediately follow visitation. Graveside services will be held at Noon on Wednesday, October 23, 2019 at Elmwood Cemetery in Birmingham, where she will be laid to rest next to her husband of 47 years. We would like to express our sincere gratitude to the staff at Ashbury Manor Assisted Living and Specialty Care for their compassionate and loving care of our Mother.
