Paul Alphonse Poiroux, Jr.
July 24, 1940 - December 8, 2024
It is with heavy hearts and deep love that we announce the passing of our dear Paul Alphonse Poiroux, Jr., affectionately known as "Poppy," who went to be with the Lord on Sunday, December 8, 2024, at 4:40 a.m., surrounded by his loving family. Paul's life was a testament to kindness, faith, and unwavering devotion to the ones he loved. He had a heart of gold and a spirit full of laughter that brought joy to all who knew him.
Born in Mobile, Alabama, on July 24, 1940, to Paul and Mildred Poiroux, Paul spent much of his childhood at his family's bay house on Alabama Pointe, where he learned to appreciate the joys of life: fishing, crabbing, and shrimping with his family. It was there that he developed a love for nature, a sense of peace in the quiet moments, and a deep gratitude for the beauty of God's creation. These fond memories stayed with him throughout his life and shaped the man he became.
Paul knew the importance of love and companionship. After the loss of his first wife, Carolyn, to cancer, Paul was blessed to find a new chapter in life with his beloved wife, Patsy. Their 23 years together were filled with afternoon car rides down Mobile Bay, totties on the back porch, and countless hours of laughter. Paul found peace and joy in the quiet moments spent with Patsy and cherished their life together deeply.
Paul's greatest joy was his family. He was a devoted father to Julie Poiroux Bostwick, Diana Poiroux Smith (Hillary), and Paul Poiroux (Deborah), and stepfather to Cindy Phillips (John). He adored his grandchildren: Courtney Poiroux, Jessica Poiroux Cooper (Jeremy), Braxton Bostwick (Abby), Preston Phillips, Carter Poiroux, Colton Bostwick, Carson Phillips, Brianna Smith, and great-grandchildren: Kenleigh, Holden, Owen, and Alba Grace. He treasured every phone call, every visit, and every moment spent with them. Whether it was offering advice, sharing a laugh, or simply enjoying the comfort of being together, Paul made each of them feel deeply loved.
He also leaves behind his sisters, Betty Sargent (Leroy) and Pam Rogers (Tony), as well as many nieces, nephews, and extended family who loved him dearly.
Paul's love extended far beyond his family. He was a friend to many, with a warm spirit that made anyone feel welcome. His wit and humor, along with his deep, caring nature, left a lasting impact on everyone who had the privilege of knowing him. Whether it was sharing an afternoon round of golf with friends or enjoying Alabama football with family, Paul found joy in life's simplest pleasures.
A true Southern gentleman, Paul's legacy is one of love, laughter, and kindness. He taught us to be slow to anger, quick to forgive, and to cherish every moment spent with the people we love. In one of his last conversations with one of his grandchildren, he shared words that will stay with us forever: "Go home, turn on some old Christmas music, decorate your tree, love on your wife, and enjoy life! Because that's what it's all about."
We take comfort in knowing that Paul is now at peace, reunited with loved ones who have gone before him. His memory will live on in the love he shared, the lessons he taught, and the family he leaves behind. We will honor his life by living with the same love, humility, and faith that he shared with us each day.
A celebration of Paul's life will be held on Sunday, December 15, 2024, at Mobile Memorial Gardens Funeral Home (640 Three Notch Road, Mobile, Alabama, 36619) where we will gather to give thanks for his life and the legacy of love he leaves behind.
