Peggy Dunnam Garrett (Joan), 89, passed away on January 23,2023. She was the widower of Herbert Gordon Garrett. They shared 52 years of marriage together.
Born in Quitman, Mississippi, she was the daughter of Charles Justin Dunnam and Mildred Roberts Dunnam. Her many jobs through the years included working at Borden Milk Company, Kroger meat market, Brookley Field driving a fork lift, City of Prichard, then she retired as the purchasing agent for Mobile County Commission.
For many years she was an active member of Theodore Baptist Church. She loved traveling, listening to gospel music, working in her yard to grow beautiful flowers, spending time with family and friends. She always had a sweet, giving personality and was loved by many.
She is survived by her sister Wanda Hagan and brother Mike Dunnam (Florence). She also leaves behind her children, Norma Fawcette, Sandra Waddill (Ted), Greg Sistrunk, Kathy Garrett, Cindy Harvard, and Shirley Webb. She is also survived by her grandchildren, Amy Murray, Crystal Ladnier (Michael), Chase Sistrunk, Chad Sistrunk (Nikki), Stacia Sistrunk, Alan K. Wade(Heather),Michelle Smith (Tim), Wendi Istre (Devin), Randy Slocum, Christy Richardson (Rodney). She also leaves behind many great grandchildren, nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Herbert Gordon Garrett, her parents Charles Justin Dunnam and Mildred Roberts Dunnam. Also her brothers, Raymond Dunnam, Douglas Dunnam, Stanley Dunnam as well as her sister-in-laws Gladys Dunnam, Margie Dunnam, Mary Dunnam and brother-in-law Carl David Hagan. Her daughter-in-law Donia Sistrunk and her grandson Kevin Wilkerson Jr also preceded her in death.
The funeral service will be held at Mobile Memorial Gardens on Friday, January 27, 2023 at 2:00pm, followed by graveside internment. The viewing will begin at 1:00pm until right before service begins.
The family would like to thank everyone for flowers, notes, calls, food and all of your support. A big thank you to our Comfort Care hospice workers who have helped us take care of her during this time, especially Margaret Flowers,Sean Mizelle, Vicki Harris, and Elise Knowles.
