Phillip Cosminsky

September 18, 1930 — October 18, 2019

Sept. 18, 1930-October 18, 2019

Phillip Eugene “Gene” Cosminsky, age 89, a native and lifelong resident of Mobile, AL, passed away on October 18, 2019 at a local hospital. He was born on September 18, 1930 and was preceded in death by his parents, Philip Ray Cosminsky and Rosa Frye. Cherishing his memory are his wife of 64 years, Betty June Cave Cosminsky; four daughters, Melanie (Mike) Walters, Laverne (Ricky) Vautier, Stephanie (Earl) McKinnell, and Judy Cosminsky; one son, Michael Beatty; four grandchildren, Whitney Vautier Engheta, Stephen McKinnell, Ashton Vautier, and Kelly Nguyen; three great-granddaughters, Sadie Nguyen, Libby Nguyen, and Mary Grace McKinnell; one sister, Sharon (Dick) Kern; many nieces, nephews, other relatives and many dear friends. He loved his family and instilled strong, loving, Christian values that have served them well. He attended College Park Baptist Church. Gene worked as a salesman for Sears Roebuck and served as a loyal and respected employee for nearly three decades until retirement. In his spare time, he loved to help friends and family with whatever projects they were working on – building, wallpapering, and all things mechanical. In his earlier years, he could “fix” anything and loved helping and teaching others to do so. He was the type of man who never met a stranger and was kind and warm to everyone he met. He will be remembered by his many loved ones for his sweet and kind nature, for loving all people and seeing the best in them, and for always having a positive attitude and outlook. He had many interests and hobbies over the years including RV traveling, square dancing, golfing, skiing, and watching his grandchildren participate in various events. In recent years, his favorite past times included watching Braves baseball, Alabama football, going on fishing trips with his men’s Sunday school group, sitting quietly with his pets, and playing cards. He most enjoyed spending time with family and friends. Some of his closest friends were his sisters and brothers-in-law, all of whom he loved deeply. His favorite roles were that of husband, father, grandfather, and in the past 4 years, great- grandfather. His three great-granddaughters brought him true joy and he was eagerly anticipating the birth of three additional great grandchildren, all whom are due in the coming months. He will be greatly missed by the many people who loved him. Visitation will be held Wednesday, October 23, 2019 at Mobile Memorial Gardens Funeral Home from 1:00 PM until 2:00 PM followed by a funeral service at 2:00 PM from the funeral home chapel. Interment will be in Mobile Memorial Gardens. Condolences may be offered at www.mobilememorialfunerals.com.
