Portia Adams

November 28, 1923 — December 20, 2017

Portia Jean (May) Adams, a native of Rockhampton, Queensland, Australia, passed away at the age of 94 on Wednesday, December 20, 2017, at a nursing home in Duncanville, Texas. She was the wife of Lt. Colonel Ira A. Adams, whom she married when he was a U.S. Army Air Corps pilot serving in Australia and the Pacific Theatre in World War II. She came to the United States in 1947 and resided here since that time. She loved working with children, and served as a Brownie Scout and Girl Scout leader at Elmendorf AFB, Anchorage, Alaska, and in Mobile County Alabama. She was preceded in death by her beloved husband Ira in June 2004, and by her mother Alice (Scanlan) May (1992) and father Kenneth May (1951). She is survived by two children, Dr. Ira G. Adams and Carol A. (Adams) Moody; a grandson, Kenneth E. Moody of Jacksonville, Florida, a step grandson, Brandon A. Paige of Hattiesburg, Mississippi, a great grandchild, Taylor Marie Moody; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends. Funeral services will be held on Friday, January 19, 2018 at 2:00pm, from the chapel of Mobile Memorial Gardens Funeral Home. The family will receive friends from 1 pm until service time at the funeral home.
