Ray Thomas Utsey, 78, a native of Millry, AL and current resident of Mobile, AL, died Monday, May 27, 2019 after a lengthy illness.  Ray was a 1959 graduate of Millry High School; attended the University of South Alabama and was a 10-year veteran of the US Navy.  He was employed by Delchamps as store manager and later owned and operated Utsey’s Food Mart in Slaughter, LA.  In 2001, Ray retired and returned to live in Mobile, AL. He was preceded in death by his parents, Gaines Huber Utsey and Thelma Audell McCain Utsey; four sisters, Ruth Yates, Vivian Flynt, Jacquelyn Flynt and Vera Robertson; and four brothers, Mack H. Utsey, Joseph M. Utsey, W. J. Utsey and Frank Utsey.  His survivors include his devoted wife of 37 years, Lurlie Bozeman Utsey; his son, William Thomas Utsey; two sisters, Loui Utsey Saunders and Barbara Utsey (Jack) Stevens; two sisters-in-law, Frances Utsey and Carolyn Utsey; nieces; nephews; other relatives and friends.  Funeral services will be held Tuesday, June 4, 2019 at 12:00 Noon from the chapel of Mobile Memorial Gardens Funeral Home.  The family will receive friends at the funeral home Tuesday from 10:00 AM until service.  Interment, with military honors, will be Tuesday afternoon at 2:30 PM in Alabama State Veterans Memorial Cemetery, 3904 State Highway 225, Spanish Fort, AL.  Condolences may be offered at www.mobilememorialfunerals.com
