Ray O. Maurer III was born in Mobile, AL on February 24,1966 to Linda L. Pocase Maurer and Raymond “Skip” O. Maurer Jr. He passed away October 1, 2019 with his mother by his side.
Ray served as a U. S. Merchant Mariner as Chief III Unlicensed Engineer with a Tankerman AB. He attended Fire School in Basic Firefighting, Personal Survival, Basic Safety and Social Responsibility. He held the following Endorsements: ABOSV, STCW95, SIP, OMSA Safety, HAZMAT, OSV Rigger Training Watch Standing Certificate, H2S Safety, Rigger Safety and Rig Pass-International Associations of Drilling Contractors. He served on 100 T Work Boats and 1,600 T Anchor Handling Supply Vessels. He worked out of Louisiana and Texas, until he became disabled, which ended his career.
Ray is preceded in death by his Father, Raymond O. Maurer Jr. His Grandparents, Raymond O. Maurer and Constance Farver Maurer, George E Pocase and Eunice R. Simmons Pocase.
He Is survived by his Mother, Linda L. Pocase Higbee, Step Father Dr. James W. Higbee of Mobile, AL, Two Step-Brothers Brett M. Higbee of Tacoma, WA, and James W. Higbee Jr.(Lorie) of Tulare, CA and Two Step-Sisters Brenda M. Higbee Bacon of Tacoma, WA and Karen L. Higbee Bunn (Tom) of Cleveland, Ohio, One Niece Kayleigh M. Bacon of Tacoma, WA, Two Nephews Daniel M. Bacon (Kelsey) of Tacoma WA and John Ryan Higbee of Tulare, CA, One Great Niece, Aleah F. Ammon of Tacoma,WA. and Miscellaneous other relatives. Ray is also survived byTwo Dear Friends James Spain of Grove Hill, AL and Lynne Ellsworth of Woods Hole, MA.
Visitation will be at Mobile Memorial Gardens Funeral Home at 11:00 AM followed by a Service in the Chapel at 12:00 PM Friday, October 11, 2019. Funeral services will follow at the Mobile Memorial Gardens Cemetery.
