Reverend Robert Eugene Phillips, 91, of Mobile, Alabama, passed away June 22, 2016 at the William F. Green VA Nursing Home in Bay Minette, Alabama.
Memorial Service will be held at Mobile Memorial Gardens on at Saturday, June 25 at 2:00 p.m. with visitation from 12:00 p.m. - 2:00 p.m..
Robert "Bob" Phillips was born in Goodlettsville, Tennessee on February 8, 1925. He went to high school at Treadway High School in Memphis, Tennessee and graduated in 1941. He served in the U.S. Army in the South Pacific during World War II as a Tech 4th Class. Upon his return from the war, he attended Georgetown College in Georgetown, Kentucky, where he met his future wife, Mary Frances Hall. He graduated with his Bachelor of Religious Education degree from New Orleans Theological Seminary in New Orleans, Louisiana. He married Mary Frances on June 20, 1953.
In the course of their 60 years of marriage, together they served churches across the Southeast, as well as mission work in Ohio and North Dakota. He was an ordained minister for over fifty years and loved by many as a Bible teacher. He found great satisfaction in writing and creating books about Biblical topics and themes, especially Biblical fiction. In his later years, he was director of the East European Harvest, leading groups to create Bibles in Russian. Preaching, teaching, and printing the Word of God were at the heart of his ministry throughout his life.
Bob Phillips is preceded in death by his wife Mary Frances; parents, B. Lee and Katherine; and, his brother James.
He is survived by his sister Margaret (Phillips) Forsyth of Senatobia, Mississippi; daughters Carolyn Jean Battle (Jim) and Mary Katherine Phillips; and four grandchildren: Jonathan Watson, Thomas Battle, Timothy Battle, and Samuel Battle.
