Richard Wayne Gonterman
On Wednesday October 16, 2019, Richard Wayne Gonterman, devoted husband, and loving father of 3 girls, passed away peacefully at his home surrounded by his family. He was 71. Richard was born September 8, 1948 and a native and lifelong resident of Theodore, Al.
For Over 20 years, he worked as a Boat Captain moving oil rigs and was able to travel all over the world. After retiring from the oil industry, he started his own business, Tri T. Dirt INC operating heavy equipment in the construction field. He had a very strong work ethic and was deeply committed to his work. This established him as one the best operators in the industry.
He had a passion for football (especially Alabama Football), fishing, and spending quality time with his family. Richard had a great sense of humor and was always up for a good joke, if he wasn’t the one telling it.
Richard was one of a kind. He was a loyal husband, devoted father, and loving Paw-paw. His heart was big and his charming nature touched all who knew him. He was always readily available to help anyone. He loved teaching and advocating to the younger generation in this trade. He taught so many, and touched so many lives, most of them thought of him as a father figure and some even called him Paw-paw. The world is truly a brighter, happier place for having him in it. The mark he left and the friendships he leaves behind will be dearly missed.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Earl and Marie Gonterman and an Infant son. He is survived by his beloved wife of 50 years Deborah. His 3 daughters, Traci (Johnny) Grantham, Theresa Gonterman, Tammy (Chris) Amick. 5 Grandchildren, Amanda, Kyle, Matthew, Brandon, and Owen. 4 Great-Grandchildren, Carter, Amora, Victoria, and David. 2 sisters, Judy Stewart and Shirley Goff and many nieces, nephews, and cousins.
A memorial celebration will be held at Mobile Memorial Gardens Funeral Home on Monday October 21, 2019. Visitation is from 12-2 followed by Chapel Service at 2pm and graveside to follow. Family and Friends will then gather for a reception at the Tillman’s Corner Senior Citizens Center (5863 Nevius Rd, Mobile Al 36619) for refreshments.
