Robert Lamar Roy born in Laurel, MS and lifelong resident of Mobile, AL entered into the presence of God on June 9, 2018. He graduated from Murphy High School in 1957 and worked for Burlington Northern Railroad for 33 years as a brakeman / conductor. Bob also served in the U.S. Army National Guard in the 711 Combat Signal Battalion.
A faithful member and servant of Springhill Avenue United Methodist Church where he married the love of his life Shirley on May 27, 1961 and where they later renewed their vows on their 50th wedding anniversary May 27, 2011.
He was preceded in death by his parents Mary and Lamar Roy, his son David and daughter Lisa. He is survived by his daughters Donna Lynn (David) Schof, Lesley (Jack) Jaquay, son-in-law Ronnie Anderson, daughter-in-law Jennifer Roy (Tim) Buckler, grandchildren Tyler Anderson, Payton Jaquay, Kelsey and Carson Roy, 1 sister Dorothy (Hubert) Dykes, 2 brothers Roderick (Tommie) Roy and William Roy, numerous nieces and nephews and many lifelong friends. Bob enjoyed reading and bowling. He bowled on numerous leagues throughout the city for 60 years and was a current member of the Tuesday Senior League at Skyline where he had also coached the youth league. Bob was a loyal Auburn fan. A celebration of life will be held at Springhill Avenue United Methodist Church on Saturday June 23, 2018. Visitation will be from 2 - 3 PM with the service at 3 PM. Refreshments will be in the fellowship hall immediately following at 4 PM.
In lieu of flowers donations may be made in Bob's name to his beloved church and home away from home, Springhill Avenue United Methodist Church.
