Robert "Bob" Harvey Tate, age 82, of Mobile, Alabama, passed away Monday, September 10, 2018, at his home.
Bob was born May 7, 1936, in Columbus, Mississippi, to Harvey Claudus Tate and Maude Aldridge Tate. He is survived by his wife of 61 years, Rebecca "Becky" Tate; son Chris (Becky) Tate, daughters Tami (Rick) Breazeale and Kellie (Kyle) Andrews; grandchildren Anthony Branton, Jay Breazeale, Kalyn Andrews, Gregory Tate, Kerry Andrews and Amber Tate all in the Mobile area; and many nieces, nephews, relatives, and friends.
Bob was preceded in death by his father Harvey Claudus Tate and mother, Maude Aldridge Tate.
Bob, a graduate of Mississippi State University, served in the United States Navy for 4 years on the USS Lexington. He also worked for the FBI in cryptology and retired from Ciba Geigy after 32 years of service. He was an avid Civil War collector and loved books - so much that he wrote one himself. It is titled "Reflections of Emma", a soon-to-be published work based on years of research and items he found in a woman's 19th century Bible in Vermont. He faithfully attended West Mobile church of Christ.
Visitation will be held Friday, September 14, 2018, at Mobile Memorial Gardens Funeral Home from 10:00 a.m. until noon. Funeral services will take place at noon at the onsite chapel, with Ken Sils, preacher at West Mobile church of Christ officiating, assisted by long-time friend and retired preacher, Milton Woodruff, of Saraland, Alabama, and Pat Donahue of Huntsville, Alabama. Interment will be in Mobile Memorial Gardens Cemetery.
Pallbearers will be Jay Breazeale, Gregory Tate, Bobby Beasley, Joey Hawkins, Jim Yates and Ben Stout. Honorary Pallbearer is Anthony Branton.
