Ruby Turner

Ruby Maxine Turner, 80, of Mobile, died on September 1, 2024, after a sudden acute illness. She was born on March 24, 1944, to William Turner and Ruby Estelle Prine Turner of Deer Park, Alabama.

Maxine was a 1962 graduate of Fruitdale High School. She attended the University of Southern Mississippi before entering the working world. In 1966, she went to work as an operator for the telephone company. She enjoyed a long tenure there with roles that included assignment clerk, working on the frame, and electronic technician before retiring in 2005 from the company then known as BellSouth. Maxine was a loyal and popular team member at BellSouth, earning recognition for her service and making many lifelong friends.

As an active and long-term sustaining member of Woodridge Baptist Church, Maxine gave her time and energy to help everyone around her and spread the word of God. Being a part of this church family was a great blessing in Maxine's life that brought her much joy. Throughout her lifetime, she also remained a sustaining member of her family's home church, Shiloh Baptist, in Deer Park.

Maxine was an avid flower gardener, and her favorite place was amidst the countless blooms in her home gardens, the beautiful result of many years of careful planting and gentle nurturing by her skilled hands. When she wasn't tending to her flowers, Maxine enjoyed an active social life rich with many friendships. She brought friends together from different aspects of her life, creating a tight-knit group of women who shared common interests and values, supported each other through life's highs and lows, and loved to have fun. She enjoyed many wonderful times throughout the years traveling, shopping, and experiencing life with her closest friends.

Maxine is survived by her youngest sister, Jacqueline (Allison) Turner, niece Tammy (Marc) Adcock, niece Theresa (Van) Normand, niece Ella Grace Rader, great-nephew Stephen Alex (Kathryn) Knight, and great-nephew Jacob Knight and his fiancée Emma Mabry. Her family was the center of Maxine's world, and she cherished her role as the Turner family matriarch. As "Mac Mac", she especially adored and doted on her great-nephews, Alex and Jacob, from the time they were born. She was a constant, loving presence in their lives.

She was preceded in death by her parents and her younger sister Judy Mistrot.

Maxine was loved by many. She exemplified kindness and compassion and always sought to be of service to others. She was a beacon of love and support for her family and friends. She was sweet, funny, witty, opinionated, and fiercely independent. She will be sorely missed.

Visitation will be Friday, September 6th, 2024 from 9 a.m. to 10 a.m. at Woodridge Baptist Church. Funeral services will follow at 10 a.m. with Pastor Gary Harrod and Brother Danny Baxter officiating.

Graveside service and interment will be later that day at 2 p.m. at Shiloh Baptist Church in Deer Park.
