Rudolph Morrell Bridges, age 75, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, October 13, 2015 while surrounded by loved ones. He was a native Mobilian and a resident of Fairhope, AL. He was a retired District 3 Chief and First Responder of the Mobile Fire Department. Known as "Rudy" to those who loved him, he was a humble yet true-life hero. He received multiple awards for meritorious service throughout his 32 year career with the Mobile Fire Department, and was involved in rescue and recovery efforts of the 1993 Amtrak Bayou Canot disaster. He also served in the Alabama National Guard. Rudy was a loving father, husband, brother, nephew, cousin, uncle, and son. He was an avid fisherman and hunter and loved a good practical joke. He was a member of the Choctaw County Duffy's Bend Hunting Club for over 20 years. Rudolph was preceded in death by his father James Daniel Bridges, Sr. and mother Hildred Pierce Bridges. He is survived by his loving wife of 51 years, Retha Trussell Bridges of Fairhope; children, David H. Bridges (Debra) of Irvington, Steven E. Bridges and Kathryn Bridges Pulliam of Fairhope; step grandchildren, Amy Durden Shewmake (Stephen) and Mark Durden, Jr. of Irvington; siblings James D. Bridges, Jr. (Adonna) of Fairhope, Randy Bridges, Sr. (Marsha) of Chickasaw, Carolyn Bridges Johnson (Leighton) of Daphne and Dennis Bridges (Robyn) of Mobile. He is also survived by multiple nieces, nephews, extended family, friends and fellow firefighters. Visitation will be held on Monday, October 19, 2015 from 12 noon until 2PM at Mobile Memorial gardens Funeral Home. Graveside service immediately following visitation will be officiated by the Rev.
