Rufus Powell, Jr.

Rufus Andrew Powell, Jr., age 81, and resident of William F. Green Veteran's Home, passed on January 22nd, 2025, due to a long illness. Rufus was born on March 10th, 1943, in Mobile, Alabama. He was a graduate of Theodore high school. He joined the United States Navy in 1963. Rufus was a retired pipefitter at Scott Paper Company/Kimberly Clark. He enjoyed hunting and fishing at his camp. Rufus loved watching Alabama football and Atlanta Braves baseball and spending time with his family. He attended Life Church for many years and loved Jesus. Rufus' favorite happy place was sitting on the front porch.

He is preceded in death by; his first wife, Mary M. Powell; his daughter, Susan D. Powell; his mother, Mattie Mae Powell; his father, Rufus Andrew Powell, Sr.; and his second wife, Elizabeth Powell.

Rufus is survived by; his daughter, Tina (Randy) Holcomb; his son, Jason (Amanda) Powell; his grandchildren, John (Katie) Holcomb, Caleb (Rachel) Holcomb, Gabe (Annalee) Riley, and Hunter Powell; his great-grandchildren, Avery, Kendall, Annie, and Bryson Holcomb; his brother, Robert (Nell) Powell; and other family members.

The funeral service for Rufus Powell will be held Wednesday, January 29th, 2025, at 10 A.M. at Mobile Memorial Gardens Funeral Home with brother John Lancaster of Life Church officiating. Burial will follow at Mobile Memorial Gardens Cemetery. Visitation will be held prior to the service at Mobile Memorial Gardens Funeral Home from 9 A.M. to 10 A.M. on Wednesday, January 29th, 2025.
