Runelle Kirk

Runelle Jones Kirk -9/29/24 - 9/15/16 Mrs. Runelle Jones Kirk, a lifelong native of Mobile Alabama, went to be with the Lord on Thursday Sept 15, 2016, passing while peacefully at sleep in her home. She was 91 years old and had just celebrated her anniversary with her husband of 72 years, Walter Lester Kirk Jr. She lived a full life and was the source of great joy and entertainment to her family and people who knew her. She was born on Sept 29, 1924 and graduated from Murphy High School in 1940 at the age of 15. Upon graduation, she started a career with Merchants Bank. In 1944, she married her lifetime love, Walter Lester Kirk Jr while he was in the service for World War II. Neither ever dated another person. She worked as the book keeper for Independent Methodist School, lovingly referred to as "Ole Lady Kirk", beginning in in 1970 until retiring in the late 1980s. She was an early member of the First Independent Methodist Church, Mobile AL, and faithfully attended for over 50 years. She was preceded in death by her son, James David Kirk, her parents Velma and Matthew Jones, siblings Jay Jones, William Jones, Adabelle Degeer, Andrew Jones, and Alice Hubbard. Runelle is survived by her husband, Walter Lester Kirk Jr, her sister Mary Singer; brother Larry Jones; her children, Karen Kruse Mcfarlane (Robert), Mary Lee Chenevert (John), and Walter Lester Kirk III (Mary); eight grandchildren and thirteen great grandchildren. Runelle dedicated her life to God and her family. Visitation will be held from Mobile Memorial Gardens Funeral Home on Monday, September 19, 2016 from 10:00 AM until 12:00 PM followed by funeral services in the Chapel.
