Ruthie Evans

Ruthie Maples Evans, 86, of Mobile, Alabama passed away in her home on March 31, 2025. She was born January 26,1939 in Turnerville, AL and was a lifelong resident of Mobile County, AL.

She is preceded in death by her husband, James O. Evans Sr; mother, Annie Mae Maples

Ferguson; her father, Daniel Maples; her stepfather William H. Ferguson; her brother, Dan Maples Jr. She is survived by her sister Patricia M. Woodard; her brother William H. Ferguson Jr (Jane); her sons James O. Evans Jr. (Stephanie), and Alan Bradford Evans; her granddaughters Brooke Howell (Matt), and Heidi Knowles (Stephen); and her great granddaughters Abigail Howell, Addilyn Knowles, and Hannah Knowles; as well as many nieces, nephews and cousins.

Ruthie was a loving wife, mother, sister, aunt, and grandma. She was a Citronelle High School Graduate in 1956. After high school, she worked in the Mobile County License Commissioner's office for several years. It was there that she met her husband of 44 years. She worked hard in the home to always make it a loving and inviting atmosphere. She loved her family and encouraged them to pursue their dreams. She was a member of Moffett Road Baptist Church for most of her adult life and always volunteered her time to make sure her sons made it to their many church, band and community events. After Ruthie became a grandma, she offered to keep her granddaughters as much as possible during the summers. She spent time crafting and teaching the girls how to sew. Ruthie was always available to talk, no matter the time of day or who was calling. Although she will be dearly missed, her family and friends are at peace knowing that she will be resting in the loving arms of her Savior, Jesus Christ.

Funeral services will be held from the chapel of Mobile Memorial Gardens Funeral Home on Saturday, April 5, 2025 at 12 noon. The family will receive friends from 11am until service time Saturday at the funeral home.
