Samuel L. Stephens, Jr., a native and longtime resident of Mobile, AL, died Monday, July 23, 2018 at the age of 71. The incredible kindness, caring, dedication and competence of MD Anderson Cancer Center personnel was unsurpassed -- from the volunteers, housekeeping, dietary servers, nurses, nursing assistants, other medical staff, and physicians, especially Cedric in Leukemia Fast-track, and Dr. Maro Ohanian, DO, along with her Physician's Assistant, Brooke and her nurse, Nancy. We are forever grateful for not only the extended time given us, but also the quality of life where Sam could visit places, buy his cowboy hat and clothes, eat his Texas steaks and other fine foods and last, but not least, grant his final wish to have a Guinness. Sam graduated from Auburn University in 1969 with a degree in Aviation Management. He was employed by the City of Mobile in the Engineering Department and then with the Mobile Fire Department. His survivors include his wife, Charlotte Stephens; son, Robert Stephens and daughter-in-law, Melinda; precious grandchildren, Loren and Nathaniel; sister, Cecelia; other relatives and friends. Sam loved the Lord, his family, friends and country. Funeral services will be held Sunday, July 29, 2018 at 3:00 PM from the chapel of Mobile Memorial Gardens Funeral Home. The family will receive friends at the funeral home Sunday from 1:00 PM until service time.
