Samuel Burke Vaughn, Sr., a native of High Springs, FL and longtime resident of Mobile, AL died Sunday, February 15, 2015 - another soldier gone home. He was a Marine and served in the Pacific during WWII. Sam was preceded in death by his parents, Daniel Ridgell Vaughn, Sr. and Cleopatra "Cleo" Crowe Vaughn; his wife of 74 years, Dorothy Wilhoit Vaughn; his five brothers; two step-sisters; and grandson, Daniel Herbert Vaughn. He is survived by two sons, Samuel Burke (Vivian) Vaughn, Jr., and Donald Robert Vaughn; his sister, Marie Garbarino; three grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandson; other relatives and friends. Sam was a Christian who loved his family and country, was an encourager to everyone he met and will be missed by all who knew him. Funeral services will be held Thursday, February 19, 2015 at 2:00 PM from the Chapel of Mobile Memorial Gardens Funeral Home. The family will receive friends at the funeral home Thursday from 12:00 Noon until 2:00 PM. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial donations in Mr. Vaughn's name be made to Fulton Road Baptist Church, 1800 Dauphin Island Parkway, Mobile, AL 36605 or Azalea Baptist Church, 3050 Halls Mill Road, Mobile, AL 36693.
