Shandel Turner

January 14, 1966 — September 18, 2021

Shandel Yvette Turner
(January 14, 1966 - September 18, 2021)
Shandel Turner, 55, of Mobile, AL, went to her heavenly home Saturday, September 18, 2021. She was born on January 14, 1966, and was a lifetime resident of Mobile, AL. She graduated from Theodore Highschool in 1984, where she met her highschool sweetheart, Ronald Craig Turner, whom she later married. They had the privilege and honor to be blessed with two precious daughters, Amy Janea (May 25, 1999-August 1, 2001) and Laura Brooke, born October 22, 2002. Being wife to Ron, and Mother to their children brought great joy beyond words and she treasured her gifts from God.
As a believer in the Lord Jesus Christ, Shandel was active in service. In love she faithfully stood by her husband of 33 years and parented their girls in godliness as she strived to teach them the truth of her Savior. Over the years at various times and places she served in her home church by singing in the choir, teaching Sunday school and teaching VBS, among other roles. It was her gift and pleasure to create a pleasant environment at home and anyone who entered there would find themselves welcomed, comfortable, and surrounded by the sweetness of family photos, lovely curtains and beautiful blue & white dishes.
She enjoyed travelling from time to time, especially to the mountains or Disney, but she very much enjoyed the simple pleasures of home, decorating, cross-stitching, reading or sometimes watching a British mystery. She enjoyed lunch dates with friends and browsing at antique or resale shops. Anyone who knew Shandel knows she was down to earth, loved to laugh and could find humor in almost any situation. She very much enjoyed coffee and meaningful conversations with the people she loved.
Shandel had a special compassion for those who were suffering and would give of her time to encourage them. Relationships were important to her and so were the souls of her family and others so she was proactive in sharing the Gospel of Christ with her words and life. She trusted the Lord for many years and was eager to continue growing in knowledge, understanding and obedience to His Word. Many of the old hymns were special to her and brought her great comfort. Over the last couple of years she was an active member at Cloverleaf Baptist Church. She loved her Bible and a good sermon and on any given Sunday you could find her there with both along with a fan in her hand.
As a young adult she worked for years as a dental hygienist at Cockrell Dental office where she helped to put bright smiles on lots of faces. She had fond memories from that season of her life. For about 10 years she worked as a kindergarten teacher at Grace Baptist Academy, where Laura was schooled from 1st-10th grade, and she was thrilled to teach the little ones. More recently she enjoyed being home full time with Laura to homeschool for her last two years of highschool and was proud of and grateful for Ron who has been a fire fighter for the Mobile Fire Department for over 20 years. She was thrilled with the work he did to make their patio a tranquil space and enjoyed spending time there, especially in the swing he hung for her. She loved listening to Laura play the violin and was so very grateful for and proud of the young lady she's become. She is now a freshman at Pensacola Christian College. Laura carried Shandel's heart and brought life and joy to her in ways she will never know this side of Heaven.
Shandel was kind, touched alot of lives and was well loved by many. She will be greatly missed, but "oh, how wonderful, how marvelous" for her to be in the loving hands of the Most High who holds the future forever and to worship at His very throne. And we can only imagine how sweet the reunion is with her dear Amy. To God be the glory.
"Who can find a virtuous woman? for her worth is far above rubies." Proverbs 31:10
Shandel was preceded in death by her daughter, Amy Janea, and her parents Carl Maxwell Brooks and Elizabeth Peace Brooks Dodge.
She is survived by her husband Ron, daughter Laura, brothers David Brooks (Sammi), Ladale Brooks, Michael Lisenby (Margie), father in law & mother in law Bob & Mary Turner, sisters in law Debbie Lang (Tom), Cindy Tuminello, brother in law Mike Turner, numerous aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces, nephews, and cousin Karen/Susie Naman (Paul).
