Shelby Jean Stringer Johnson, 80, a native of Mobile, AL, passed away peacefully in her home Friday night. She was a loving mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and friend. She had a unique sense of humor and never met a stranger. She was preceded in death by her husband, Ray Edward "Johnny" Johnson, Sr.; her parents, Inez Bowles Stringer Ray and John Stringer; her sisters, Annette Viola Pangan and Annie Jeanette Purdum; and an infant brother, Robert Elliott Stringer. She will be missed and forever loved by her four children, Diana (Larry) Kraft, Ray E. (Susan) Johnson, Jr., Mary Catherine "Cathy" (Charles F. Bodin) Johnson, and Lisa (Johnny) Pugh; seven grandchildren, Shannon; Ray, III; Jonathan, Benjamin, Rebecca, Rachael and Ben; thirteen great-grandchildren; other relatives and friends. The family personally thanks her daughter, Cathy, for her compassionate care and sacrifices in being her mother's caregiver for the last few years of her life. They truly had a special bond. Funeral services will be held Wednesday, November 9, 2016 at 2:00 PM from the chapel of Mobile Memorial Gardens Funeral Home. The family will receive friends Wednesday at the funeral home from 12:00 Noon until service time. Interment will be in Mobile Memorial Gardens.
