Shirley Hendrickson Roy born in Mobile, Al entered into the presence of God joining her beloved husband on April 12, 2021. She graduated from Murphy High School in 1959 and married Robert (Bobby) Roy in 1961. Together they had and enjoyed raising their four children. When the children were older Shirley worked at Mobile Greyhound Park until the birth of her first grandchild.
A faithful member and servant of Springhill Avenue United Methodist Church where she married the love of her life Bobby on May 27, 1961 and where they later renewed their vows on their 50th wedding anniversary May 27, 2011.
She was preceded in death by her parents David E and Mary Evelyn Hendrickson, her brother David E Hendrickson Jr, her sister Donna Sue Hendrickson Callaway, her son David and daughter Lisa.
She is survived by her daughters Donna Lynn (David) Schof, Lesley (Jack) Jaquay, son-in-law Ronnie Anderson, daughter-in-law Jennifer Roy (Tim) Buckler, grandchildren Tyler (Carloyn) Anderson, Payton Jaquay, Kelsey and Carson Roy, great grandchild Ellis Archer Anderson, 1 sister-in-law Dorothy (Hubert) Dykes, 2 brothers-in-law Roderick (Tommie) Roy and William Roy, cousin Pat Graddick with whom she shared a sisterly bond, numerous nieces and nephews, many lifelong friends including dear friend of 60 plus years Glenda Passett.
Shirley was an avid gardener and was known for her beautiful yard. She loved to bake and her desserts were frequently requested and enjoyed by many. Many were recipients of her beautifully written cards and letters for she never met a stranger and would remember all of their special occasions. Shirley enjoyed sports especially the Atlanta Braves and rarely missed a televised game, Auburn football and golf.
A celebration of life service will be held Saturday, May 1, 2021, at 3:00 p.m. at Springhill Avenue United Methodist Church, with Rev. Micah Wright officiating. There will be a reception immediately following the service.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Shirley and Bob Roy's name to their beloved church, Springhill Avenue United Methodist Church. Condolences may be offered at www.mobilefuneralservice.com
