Sylvester Murry Jr, 86, passed away peacefully at Ascension Providence Hospital, on January 10, 2022, surrounded by his two children, Todd Christopher Murry and Caren Lynne Murry, and wife of 64 years, Carolyn Fay Murry. He was a beloved Papa Syl to his daughter in law Brandi Murry, grandchildren Brandon with wife Nicky, Aidan, Chase and Meredith Murry, and great grandchildren Michael, Betty, Edith, and John Patrick Murry. He is predeceased by his parents Sylvester and Albertine Murry.
Syl was born on August 3, 1935, in New Orleans, La and served in the Navy aboard the aircraft carrier USS Ticonderoga. He worked for Illinois Central Railroad and Winn Dixie in maintenance and construction, eventually becoming construction superintendent of Winn Dixie's Atlanta division, before moving to Mobile. He enjoyed fishing, driving trips out west, and spending time with family and friends. He could often be seen boating around Cocodrie Louisiana and Mobile Bay.
Even though Syl was taken too soon, he lived an extraordinary life surrounded by people who loved him. Please join us as we celebrate this remarkable person at 2 p.m. on Friday, January 14, at Mobile Memorial Garden Funeral Home (viewing begins at 1 p.m.).
