Sylvia Young Gunnels, 79, passed away on Friday, July 21, 2017 at a local hospital. Born in Kinston, N.C., she lived the majority of her life in Mobile, AL, and called it home. Sylvia was retired from the JC Penney Company and a longtime member of Christ United Methodist Church. She was preceded in death by her parents, James A. and Chellie Young, and brother, Bob Young. Sylvia also lost her husband, the love of her life - James C. Gunnels Jr. in 2013. We take comfort that they are now reunited. She leaves to cherish her memory siblings Bill and Susan Young, daughters Debra (Mitch) Pettis, Pam (Dan) Walker, and son James C. (Melissa) Gunnels III, seven grandchildren and eleven great-grandchildren. Visitation for Mrs. Gunnels will be held at 1:00 pm, Monday, July 24, 2017 at Mobile Memorial Gardens with funeral services immediately following at 2:00 pm.
