GERALDINE McGALLAGHER "JERRY" HARBISON - Jerry M. Harbison, 81, died naturally March 9, 2021, at her home. She was born March 9, 1940, in Bayou la Batre, the daughter of Henry W. McGallagher and Alvis (Brinkman) McGallagher.
Jerry graduated from Alba High School, Class of 1958. Following graduation Jerry completed many first aid and child safety courses. During her senior year of high school, Jerry married her high school sweetheart, Julius "Jigger" Harbison. They celebrated 63 years of marriage this March. They often joked that they married three times. Once in 1958, the second time in 1983, and the third time on their 50th wedding anniversary in 2008. Jerry was a faithful member of First Evangelical Methodist Church of Bayou la Batre. She served as a Sunday School teacher, Bible School leader, was a member of the Women's Society, and always made cakes for church events. Jerry was involved with the Youth Boosters Club and worked with Mobile Jr Miss for many years. Jerry was often asked to sing for Mobile County Jr Miss, Miss Seafood, weddings, and for church. She was also known for all her wonderful cakes. She baked cakes with a variety of shapes and decorations for 60 years.
In addition to her parents, Mr. & Mrs. Henry McGallagher, she was preceded in death by her brother, William "Buddy" McGallagher, Great Grandson, Matthew T. Payne, Sister by love, Sissie Laforce, and Brother by love, Winston Harbison. Surviving in addition to her husband of 63 years, Julius Harbison, are her daughters Danette (Harold) Hayes, Christi (Danny) Jones, and her son Darren (Lee) Harbison. She leaves behind her grandchildren, Deloria (Timothy) Payne, Aaron Hofer, Nicholas (Krystal) Jones, Julie (Christopher) Nelson, and Katie Schjott (Patrick) Johnston and great grandchildren, Gabrielle, Jayson, Jordan, Julius, Justin, Aubree, Jonah, Miles, Vera, Cash, Luke, Jack, and Ruby. Additionally, Jerry had many honorary and loving grandchildren, nieces, nephews, cousins, friends, and church family members.
A service of remembrance will be held 4 p.m. Sunday, March 14 at First Evangelical Methodist Church. Funeral Services will be held 11 a.m. Monday, March 15 beginning at First Evangelical Methodist Church and concluding at Oddfellows cemetery.
