Thomas Earl Fletcher, Jr., age 65, passed away on August 15. He was born in Mobile in 1949. Mr. Fletcher attended Mary Montgomery High School where he was a standout in sports. He played college basketball at Pensacola Junior College and earned his degree at the University of South Alabama in English. He went on to earn his Masters Degree in Athletic Administration at the University of Southern Mississippi and his Certification for Administration from the University of South Alabama.
Mr. Fletcher taught middle school and high school English and coached football and basketball at many high schools over his 30 year career in education. He served as principal at Semmes Middle School and Satsuma High School. He was an avid golfer and spent most Saturdays golfing with his friends Steve Crenshaw and Clyde Anderson.
Mr. Fletcher is survived by his wife, Laura Fox Fletcher, daughter Amy Fletcher Messer and spouse, Jeremy, mother, Pearl English Fletcher, brother Bill Fletcher and spouse, Janet, sisters Ellen Fletcher Foster and Gwen Fletcher Devery and spouse, Fred, one grandson, Aiden Jeremy Messer, six nephews, two nieces, two greatnephews, and one greatniece. He was preceded in death by his father, Thomas E. Fletcher, Sr. and his sister Louise Fletcher. Mr. Fletcher greatly loved his family as well as his church family at Providence Presbyterian Church.
Visitation will be held at Mobile Memorial Gardens Funeral Home on Monday, August 18, 2014 from 5 to 7 PM. A Celebration of Mr. Fletchers life will be held at Providence Presbyterian Church on Tuesday, August 19, 2014 at 6 PM.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made either to the Mitchell Cancer Institute, 1700 Center Street Street, Mobile, AL 36604, or Providence Presbyterian Church, 2320 Schillinger Rd., S. Mobile, AL 36695
