Thomas Sutton

Thomas Howard Sutton passed away at the age of 93 on May 10, 2017. Thomas was lovingly known as Red or Tommy. He was born July 2, 1923 and lived his life in Mobile, Alabama. Growing up, he was well-known as the bat boy for the Mobile Shippers. He graduated from Murphy High School and volunteered for the Army Air force, serving with the 75th Bomb Squadron in the Pacific. His plane crashed on his 30th mission and landed in the Pacific close to an island occupied by the Japanese. The surviving crew stayed on the island for 10 days before rescue. Thomas was injured in the crash and his military service ended with honor. He graduated from Auburn University and worked for Turner Supply Company. Thomas was predeceased by his parents, Jesse Hamilton Sutton and Hazel Smith Sutton, and his beloved wife of 59 years, Dollie Mae Jones. Thomas is survived by his children, Glenn Sutton (Anna), Deborah Hess (Philip) and Rebekah Sprinkle (Randy). He had 5 grandchildren, Tiffany McLemore, Cody Sutton, Ryan Hess, Dustin Sprinkle and Lindsay Sutton. He has 7 great grandchildren. He was the family's moral compass and guiding light. In lieu of flowers please consider a donation to Community of Christ Church located at 672 Azalea Rd., Mobile, AL 36609. Visitation will be Saturday May 13 at 11:00 followed by the funeral service at 12:00 at Mobile Memorial Gardens.
