Troy Eugene "Gene" Shirley
March 28, 1932-September 27, 2016

Troy Eugene "Gene" Shirley went home to be with the Lord on September 27, 2016, at the age of 84. He was a lifelong resident of Mobile, AL. He was preceded in death by his parents, Troy and Edilda Katherine Shirley, his daughter, Peggy Joyce Shirley Hunter, and the love of his life, Maude Ellen Brown Shirley, whom he was faithfully devoted to for 52 years of years of marriage.

Gene's legacy to his family and friends was that he was a gentle, happy, humble and content man who never met a stranger. He had a beautiful smile and he liked to make people happy by doing card and magic tricks. He served in the National Guard and his lifetime profession was in Industrial Sales.

Throughout his life, he enjoyed playing the trumpet with his band. They performed at Mardi Gras balls and events, including, performing for a former governor. He loved all kinds of music and often you could hear him humming a tune. He blew the trumpet for many years, but when he was unable to continue playing, you would always hear a good story about his days of performing. Both of his sons, got the gift of gab and storytelling from their father. He was artistic and loved to pencil draw and take photography. One of his favorite pastimes was simply, taking long walks with his wife.

He is survived by two sons: Troy (Shelley Louise) Shirley, of Lancaster County, Pennsylvania, and Dale (Diane) Shirley, of Spanish Fort, Alabama. Five Grandchildren: Bobby Hunter, Joy (Dell) Benton, Brian (Jenny) Hunter, Sarah Frances Shirley and Seth Shirley. Six Great Grand children: Haley, Valarey, Craig, Hunter, Jordyn, and Brianna.
