Una Heartsill

June 22, 1928 — February 9, 2017

Mrs. Una L. Heartsill passed away peacefully on February 9, 2017 in Jacksonville, FL. Visitation will be held at Mobile Memorial Gardens Funeral Home on Saturday, February 18, 2017 from 12:30-2:00 PM. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 PM from the funeral home chapel, followed by interment in Mobile Memorial Gardens. Pastor Steve Killough, Mrs. Heartsill's nephew, will officiate.
Una was born in Pelham, GA to Will and Anna Ruth Hood on June 22, 1928. She lived most of her childhood in Greenville, AL where she graduated from Greenville High School. In 1951, she married her husband, Charles, and remained a supportive spouse throughout his career with the Army Corps of Engineers. Following the birth of their son, Kim, in 1953 she dedicated her time to homemaking and volunteering within her son's elementary school. In 1976, she and Charlie moved to Panama City, FL, where she resided until recent years.
After the death of her beloved husband in 1978, Una began a career in child care at Pons Child Development Center in Panama City. She skillfully and lovingly cared for many infants during her years there and always treated them as if they were her own. She enjoyed traveling, reading, gardening, and spending time with family and friends. Some of her most memorable trips were made with her dear niece, Sheila Daniels, and her good friend, Helen. She was especially fond of attending her annual Cousins' Reunions and she had a special place in her heart for animals. Her faith also was extremely important to her and she lived each day according to her beliefs. She was a member of First Baptist Church of Parker, Florida.
One of the greatest joys of her life was watching her granddaughter, Carson, grow up. "Nonnie" was an integral and important part of her life, delighting in special occasions as well as everyday events. She had a special and close bond with her son and daughter-in-law, Jan. In addition to her cherished granddaughter, Una unconditionally and deeply loved each and every member of her family, throughout the generations and enjoyed keeping up with their lives. She loved her nieces and nephews as if they were her own. Her boundless capacity to love and influence lives extended to Charlie's family, Jan's family, neighbors, children she cared for at Pons, her church family, and anyone who needed a friend. If she loved you, you were "family" and she would do anything for you. She never met a stranger. We often joked that we could leave her alone for five minutes and Miss Una would have a new friend. In return, she was dear to everyone who had a chance to know her.
Mrs. Heartsill was preceded in death by her husband, Charles; her parents, Will and Anna Ruth Hood; her brother, Harris E. Hood; and niece, Angie. She leaves to cherish her memory her son, Kim, and daughter-in-law, Janet; granddaughter, Carson Heartsill; sister, Joanne Killough (Tommy); and numerous other beloved relatives and friends.
