Velear Randall

January 30, 1939 — January 18, 2025

Our dear mother, Velear “Valene” Knowles Randall, peacefully entered the presence of the Lord on January 18 with family by her side at the age of 85. She suffered with the progressive brain disease, Lewy Body Syndrome. Her life was marked by hard work, deep love for her family. She was strong in faith.

She was born in Tompkinsville, Ky. Married George Kingery and moved to Louisville, Kentucky. They had five children. The marriage ended in divorce. As a single mother, she received her GED continued her education receiving a cosmetology degree. In 1969, she married Marvin “Doug” Knowles, a veteran of Vietnam and the family moved to Mobile. She opened a beauty shop, Valorie's Coiffures in Mobile on September 27, 1975. She loved her profession and patrons. The salon operated for twelve years. Doug was diagnosed with Multiple Myeloma and she sold her business to take care of him. Following his death, she remained retired and a few years later met and married Otis "Josh" Randall. They enjoyed 19 years of marriage.

Mom was diagnosed with dementia in 2011. Over the next thirteen years, she was lovingly cared for by her children and supported by the staff at Somerby of Mobile, and later Crowne Healthcare of Citronelle. Despite her condition, she was sweet and appreciative of all that was done for her.

Velear was predeceased by her parents, Gladys Copass Howard, and Tom Howard; her youngest son, Mark Anthony Kingery; her husbands, George Kingery, Marvin "Doug" Knowles, Otis “Josh” Randall; her stepdaughter, Barbara Randall; her grandson, Douglas Michael Kingery; and her brother, Billy Howard.

She is survived by her siblings, Rondall Howard, Sue Dwyer, Mary Chandler, and Helen Heitt; her children, Kathy (Robert) Luttrell, Michael (Rawleen) Knowles, Connie (Neal) McMullen, and Ricky (Rhonda) Knowles; her eight grandchildren, Kay Lynn Hirst, Landon Luttrell, Jennifer Feltman, Lance Knowles, Amanda Dees, Kristie Maddox, Michael Knowles, and Morgan Landreneau; and sixteen great grandchildren.

Her family was precious and dear throughout her life. May her memory bring comfort to those she leaves behind.
