Vernon Eugene Brackett, Sr, passed away at 78 years old on Friday in Mobile, AL after an accidental fall at his Dauphin Island home on October 4, 2016. Vern is survived by his wife Carol R. Parks MD; his four children: Julie Brackett Paton of Niceville, FL; Tracey Brackett Ross of Nashville, TN; Vernon Brackett, Jr of Fayetteville, GA and Candice Brackett Hawthorne of Fayetteville, GA; his sole surviving sister Doris Davis of Mobile, AL; five grandchildren, one step grandson and two stepsons; and his beloved service-dog Shaman. Vern grew up with one brother and six sisters in the Oakdale community of Mobile, AL, where he attended Murphy High School. He was a proud 1961 graduate of Auburn University majoring in Mechanical/Industrial Engineering. Vern had many hobbies and notable accomplishments throughout his lifetime. He was a Master Mason with Blue Lodge No. 142 in Stockton, AL; a published author best known for his 2001 novel, The Smashed Pennies; a long-time Harley-Davidson enthusiast with over 60 years riding experience; an Emu farmer; a certified pilot and municipal airport manager; a member of the Mobile Jaycees in the early 1960s and the Alabama Deep Sea Fishing Rodeo Chairman in 1965; a promoter for Hee Haw Promotions; a city commissioner for Creole, AL; an ambassador to the universe and an expert of free energy research. He was the founder of VE Brackett Company in 1974, an independent manufacturer's representative agency covering eight states with home office in Fayetteville, GA, a suburb of Atlanta. He also founded the Carolina Christian Church in Charlotte, NC in the early 1970s. After his retirement, Vern moved to the Great Smoky Mountains of Tennessee, where his power spirit lives. He fly-fished the many rivers of the national parks often catching more trees than trout! In lieu of flowers, the family wishes your presence to share in the celebration of his life. Celebrations were conducted on his 79th birthday at his home in Dauphin Island, AL on October 23, 2016.
