Virginia Johnson

July 20, 1934 — August 22, 2019

Virginia Barnes Johnson passed early Thursday morning August 22, 2019. She passed peacefully. Virginia was born in Columbus, Georgia on July 20, 1934. She married Melvin Johnson on March 1, 1952, after meeting him while he was stationed in Ft. Benning, Georgia. In her lifetime she was a high school bus driver and achieved becoming a nurse. She volunteered to chauffeur the high school band and football team yearly. She was loved and respected by many. She was a “MOM” to many people. To her children, she was the greatest mother anyone could ever have. Her determination and strength were to be admired. She was a pillar of this community. She is survived by one brother, Ray Barnes; three children, Charmaine Johnson, Ted Johnson, and Michele Johnson; three grandchildren, Mesha Boyle (Scott), Ted Johnson, Jr., and Robert Casey; and two great-grandchildren, Summer Boyle, and William Boyle.

Funeral services will be held Tuesday, August 27, 2019, at 10:00 a.m. from the chapel of Mobile Memorial Gardens Funeral Home. The family will receive friends from 9:00 a.m. until 10:00 a.m. on Tuesday. Interment will follow at Mobile Memorial Gardens Cemetery.
